The score “Close your eyes, listen – O.” was created as part of a site-specific work for the collection of the Palais des Beaux Arts. Ricarda Denzer's O-Research – is an auditory practice, presented here as a collection of handwritten and spoken O's. “O remains ‘always the same’, yet is constantly changing. It is ‘inconceivable’, chaotic, formless, and infinite. Wilfrid Bion describes access to O as resonance, not cognitive appropriation.” Like a ceaseless back and forth, a mysterious object “O,” this is a practice in which listening—also as a method of auditory research within my work is —“[...] an intensification and a concern, a curiosity or a disturbance.” If hearing means grasping the meaning of something, according to J.L. Nancy, then listening means “being attuned to a possible meaning that is therefore not immediately accessible.” (R. D.)
In Grid for the Modern World, Juniper Foam produced a collection of screensavers in collaboration with Seth Weiner as counterparts to a series of long-form mixes he curated for the Palais des Beaux Arts. The screensavers feature 3d models that are textured with archival images from Atelier Bachwitz’s fashion and lifestyle magazine, Moderne Welt, which was published between 1919 and 1939 from the Palais des Beaux Arts building. The grid is conceived of as a work that will continually accumulate new screens as Juniper Foam mines the publications for textures and composes and curates new mixes.
